Arcadia Sustainable Design

Arcadia can help you to create a garden that doesn’t need lots of water splashed upon it but still provides an oasis - that cooling sanctuary in parched summer months or sunny refuge in cooler times. We will work with you to create a design that you will be enthusiastic about. One that will improve your lifestyle as well as the value of your home.
Complementing Arcadia's strong grounding in horticulture and design, we have special strengths and background particularly in: Sustainable gardens We have a commitment to sustainable practices and an understanding in incorporating them in garden designs. This includes the use of landscape materials, the choice and placement of plants, and the importance of growing our own fresh food. The need to minimise the use of water while keeping the garden healthy and attractive is very important. We believe that urban gardens should provide some haven for wildlife, contributing to protecting our biodiversity Nature gardens Our understanding of the ecology of plants also gives us a way to create an authentic indigenous garden. A landscape of indigenous plants doesn’t need to look like scruffy, unkempt scrub. We can design a natural garden that will be beautiful and be an attractive haven for you as well as wildlife. Children’s gardens Our strong background in botanical and sustainability education includes working at the Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne. This included participation in the creation and use of the Children’s Garden. The insight into how children (and adults) appreciate and interact with garden spaces has been invaluable in our understanding of garden design. Learning landscapes Our education and teaching experience has seen that students are more effectively engaged in an environment where they feel stimulated. School grounds can extend the resources of the classroom to become learning spaces in their own right. We can assist educators in planning toward developing school grounds, purposely designed to be the effective and engaging educational places they should be.
